Dear Friends,

I went to an amazing tasting of North and South American wines. I tasted some great juice. Below is a set of four of my favorites. The four wines are $80. Please let me know how many sets you would like by Friday, April 11th!

1. Delicious Beverage Liberation Front Blaufrankish 2006 – This red was fantastic. It’s a lighter red that will pair wonderfully with all the lighter foods we’re enjoying now that spring is here. When I tasted it I thought it was delicious. Its made here in Oregon by David O’Reilly.

1. Copain – Saisons des Vins l’Hiver 2006 – This syrah based blend comes from a small producer in the Anderson Valley of California. You know how much I am dedicated to supporting NW wines, so that tells you how good this one is that I’ll pick it over the wines of Washington. The nose and mouth was full of chocolately notes complimented by dark berries, oak, and a bit of minerality.

1. Lioco –Indica 2006 – Tasting through Lioco’s wines is an education in the growing regions of California. I highly recommend their wines to understand what’s really going on in Sonoma. Indica is a blend of Carignan and Petite Syrah, and it’s a monster. The density and tannins in this wine are offset by lots of spice and a robust cherry flavor. This wine is a winner for anything off the grill!

1. Terra Andina – Altos Carmenere/Carignan 2005 – This Chilean gem was a highlight of the tasting. It showed off tons of coffee aroma and flavor. The coffee tones were accompanied by chocolate, spice, toasty oak, and dark brooding fruit. Again a great wine for grilled foods.

I just found an amazing deal that I had to share with you.

I just picked up 6 bottles of the 2003 Sequel Syrah. This wine is from the Longshadows winery in Walla Walla. This winery was founded by Allen Shoup, the former CEO of Ch. Ste Michelle. He invites the best wine makers in the world to use the best fruit in Washington to make killer wines.

The Sequel Syrah is made by John Duval who made Penfold’s Grange for decades. Keep in mind Grange is the best syrah in Australia and runs for $250 a bottle now. Sequel is only $55. The current vintage is 2005, which is why I was so excited to find some 2003 that I can offer for the same price!

This is a great opportunity to try an amazing wine with a bit of age on it. Remember I only have 6 bottles of this available. Please contact immediately if you would like some or all of this wine.

I want to remind you that tomorrow is the last day to get your order in for the Small Vineyards Direct Import Presale.

Many of you know that I absolutely adore Champagne, and I have a hard time not sending an email with a deal every couple months. This email is a bit different, its not Champagne, rather a sparkling wine from Italy. Most non-champagne sparklers are fine, but don’t really compare with Champagne. However, Ferrari in the Trentino region of Italy made some wines that made me take notice. I know all of us are feeling a bit of a pinch in the wallet, which leads me to other great thing about these wines, they’re much more affordable than Champagne. In fact between the quality and the price, the Ferrari NV Brut has become my house pour.

At a time when we could all use a little extra pleasure in our lives, I’m offering a bottle of the Ferrari NV Brut and a Ferrari Perle Brut 2001 for $45. This is less than one bottle of Champagne. Please let me know how many sets you would like by Friday March 21st.

Ferrari NV Brut – 100% Chardonnay – This wine is pretty with nice floral, pear, and nutty flavors complimented by great minerality and approachable acid.

Ferrari Perle Brut 2001 – 100% Chardonnay – This is the wine that convinced me that this winery is the real deal. Its complex and rich with honey and pear tones. On the palate its like honey gelato, very creamy but with plenty of acid. The length is long and gorgeous. An amazing wine.
